cement, sweat and paint

Today was a work day.  In the morning, the entire team worked together at the site of Marcos' and Luis' homes. Part of the group formed a bucket line from the street, up the stairs, and across a dirt path to Luis' house, where Marcos and Luis spread the cement for the floor of the home. The empty buckets were thrown back down to the street to be filled and passed up once again. The other half of our group primed the walls of Marcos' house. Later in the morning, we formed a bucket line back down the stairs to remove a pile of rocks and rubble from the work site.

In the afternoon, Team Erickson returned to Marcos' house to finish priming. Team Ancona (after some light stretching in Club Cana) headed to Nazaret to form a bucket line at Pura's house. The buckets of cement were poured into the foundation.

The weather was sunny, 85 degrees and humid, so we went through plenty of water and sunscreen. Pura boiled water for strong, sweet, hot Dominican coffee, and offered it to the team at her house.

While we took occasional breaks to play with the children on street, the entire team worked extremely hard today, finishing the floor of one house,  priming all the walls of another, and pouring the foundation of a third home. You can be proud of your daughters and sons.

Lennox Barnett arrived this afternoon, so our team is now complete. We'll rest for a couple of hours this afternoon (including a Yogen Fruz run and time at the pool), then go to a baseball game in Santo Domingo this evening.  (It's late, so we'll post photos of the baseball game tomorrow.)

Thanks for the ongoing prayers. God has kept us safe, strong, and in great spirits as we've worked at three difficult work sites.

  1. Moved to tears as I see Marcos and Luis finally mixing cement for their own homes. How special to be a part of that. I love seeing all the family faces in the children and our translator friends! My heart is with you there - longing to be with you. Love and prayers continue! God continues to AMAZE!!!!!
